The Stammtisch was designed by Alfredo Häberli, who was born in Argentina but moved to Swiss when he was 14. Read an interview with him here. When he was sketching this table for Quodes he was inspired by the large tables in cafe's and restaurants that people gather around and where they share their stories. But seen as those tables are usually very 'heavy' in their visual appearance, it was his goal to design a very lightweight table with an 'open' look. It won him an Interior Innovation Award in 2013! The powder-coated steel legs are available in endless colour variations. I think the edges are very special, they are not straight, like they usually are, but they angle outwards at both ends and inwards along the sides.
